Rune Structure
The gnomish runes are very simple: there is no uppercase or lowercase and all runes make one sound only. The runes have one unique feature called Hallys, which are small, intersecting lines on every rune. When the rune is a consonant, it only has one hally, but when the rune is a vowel, it has two hallys.
History
The gnomish runes where created by Dwaller when he tried to teach ancient gnomes the language of the gods. Because he was unsuccessful, he simplified 24 words and gave them each a unique symbol. At first, the runes communicated very simple information, but later on, priests started using them as an alphabet to write words.
