Magic is an odd and powerful force used for many different reasons. It behaves unpredictably, but it’s just predictable enough that some people can wield it skillfully. It’s unknown how it actually works; magic wielders can memorize a spell that works every time and explain why it happened, but they can’t necessarily tell you how it happened. Though inherently uncategorizable, most magic fits into three loose types: Satyr magic, Priestly magic, and Witchcraft.
Magic has the ability to extend the lifespan of individuals who are near it.
Satyr Magic
Satyr magic is the most common, predictable, and diverse form of magical powers. It uses captured souls (usually contained inside a geode) as its power source. It was discovered and popularized by the Elder Lord, Satyr (see Magic and the Sky for more information).
Priestly Magic
Priestly Magic is magic powers given to priests by the deities. It’s slightly unpredictable and only works about 50% of the time depending on the skill of the priest. This is due to it’s power source coming directly from the gods and its ties to the spreading of wisdom. Basically, if a priest gives out valuable wisdom, a god would be more inclined to grant their spell.
Witchcraft
Witchcraft uses precise combinations of dead things to create spells and potions. The power source comes from tiny bits of soul left in a dead thing after the soul has gone to the underworld called Soul Remnant. These dead things are then collected by witches and combined. Exactly how certain combinations work is unknown, so coming up with a new spell often includes trial and error.
